Corruption! Probably the hottest issue today... Even a rickshaw wala is talking about CWG Scams!!!
Being a close observer of Anna Hazare's movement, I often question myself as to whether Lokpal will end corruption. And the answer is always NO!
We have a lot of laws which are not being used then how will Lokpal be any different. So many scams have been exposed without Lokpal. And so many will never come to public domain even after Lokpal is implemented. Then who can end corruption? Its You and Me! Yes, we alone, can end corruption.
Lets take a simple example; I jumped a traffic signal and am caught by the cop. I have two options now; either pay the fine amount (Rs. 100/-) or tip the cop with Rs. 50/- and save the other half for myself. Who do you think is promoting corruption here? Of course, its ME. I first broke rules and then I didn't even want to pay penalty for the same. This is where corruption begins. For a little convenience, we choose to bribe officials.
I don't want to stand in the long line at RTO, I will choose to pay 2,000 bucks to the taut and get my DL! To get an EWS Certificate, even though I am not entitled for it, I will pa 5,000 bucks and enjoy all facilities of EWS. Now the deserving candidate will be left with nothing. He will be forced to lead a life of destitute and ultimately either end up becoming a petty criminal or do some do some odd job. Who is at fault; the Government? No its You and ME, who misuse the policies, who are at fault. We not only promote corruption but are also responsible for the wide-spread poverty in our nation.
Now you would say that there is no other choice. Choice hai! We have a choice. It may be difficult but not impossible. Only condition is that one should be willing to take up the challenge and be determined to a accomplish the challenge. How can an individual make a difference:

- KNOW & RESPECT LAW: Being the citizens of India, its our duty to know the law of the land. Before taking to the steering wheel, we must be aware of the traffic rules. Not knowing the law will lead us to end up breaking it and paying bribe or in some cases we will be paying the taut a big amount for the work which we are entitled to enjoy free of cost.
- BE SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE: Most of the times, we see a problem we ignore it thinking it doesn't affect you directly! The fact is; We are affected by each and everything that happens around us. Today we ignore a person teasing a girl and tomorrow the same person will molest your/our daughter/wife/friends. Will we be affected? Of course. So don't ignore any wrong. If nothing more, at least, make sure that you report every wrong that you see. Dialing 100 doesn't cost you even a paisa!
- USE YOUR RIGHTS: We, Indians, have so many rights to our avail but how many times do we use them? How many times do we ask the government as to where is the money which we paid in taxes. We never ask. But if your son asks for even 10 ruppees, you will almost take bills of exact amount when he comes back home. Ask. Ask and Ask even more.
This is a very very small list. There is much more we individuals can do to save our nation without making much efforts.
I would conclude with; Its you and me who can make a difference. No amount of Anti-corruption laws can help till we, citizens, are willing to take a stand and end corruption. So DARE TO TAKE A STAND!
