Experience at Polling Booth!

10th April 2014:
Today Delhi is going through the voting process for the 7 Lok Sabha seats that it has. A total of ____ candidates from various political parties and as independent candidates are trying their luck out at becoming an MP (Member of Parliament).
This time there has been a huge huge excitement among voters as now there are three main political parties instead of the traditional two. This time, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) made an entry into the Lok Sabha elections after getting overwhelming response in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha elections late last year.

I reached my designated Polling Station at around 10:30AM and as it was, I was not given the Voter's Slip by our BLO (Booth Level Officer) so I had to hunt for it at the booth. Though there were about 7-8 officials giving out Voter's Slips and helping out confused people but what I observed, instead of co-operating with the officials, voters were trying to create nuisance and were hugely impatient. Voters were simple trying to push and pull people to get the Voter's Slip as soon as possible but it did not happen that way. After 10-15 minutes, the officials failed to help anybody as nobody was ready to listen. The official looked around and said 'Bhaiya ji please side ho jao. Thodi hawa hamein bhi aane do. Saamne aake khade ho jao. Sabka kaam hoga.' He was so so polite that I could not believe it. Had it been me in his place, I would have got verry frustrated by now and would have shouted at least at a few people around. Anyways, I got my slip and moved towards the Polling Booth.

Everything like room numbers, list of candidates, etc was properly and neatly marked all around. I had to wait for few minutes as 2 people were already waiting there. As we waited, a very old couple came near to the booth. Seeing them, the Civil Defense Volunteer guarding the booth, swiftly stood up and courteously asked us all to wait and took in the couple for voting. Though uncle-aunty were very old and could barely walk, still came for voting. This was very inspiring. Wish more people were there to witness them and feel motivated.

In all, it was a good experience with helpful officials, well managed polling booths/stations; only if the BLO's can manage things better and ensure that all voter slips are given to people before elections, it will make things go even smoother.

Lets see who wins the race and where the nation is taken in next five years! Jai #democracy
