Independent India?

We celebrated 66th Independence Day 2 days back! But are we really independent? This is a question we all must ask ourselves! Am quite confident that none of us will be able to answer this question in affirmative.

This Independence Day, our NGO organised a painting competition for the kids of a slum we are working in for its comprehensive development. The joy on each child's face was unforgettable. It was the first time these kids got so much of  importance otherwise 3 meals a day is all they expect from life!

We got to hear so many shocking problems and most shocking was that these people have been waiting for their ration card for as long as 7 long years! Yes! That's right - 7 years for a ration card! Are they free? What is the use of such independence that these people can't enough get enough food to eat!

Everywhere we see goons dominating over everything. Earlier they were criminals but now they have their legal consultants with them and full legal protection. Our Constitution has provided for law-enforcement agencies to ensure that things work as per the law but these agencies are also being controlled by the powerful. A bunch of people use them for their vicious purpose.

So in my view, power has just transferred from one hand to another 65 years back! We were earlier dominated by the British and now we are being directed and controlled by a bunch of rich and powerful!
