Yesterday, Sanyam and myself were at Dwarka Sector 23 market. We took something to eat when Deepu cam to us asking for a 10 rupee note. I asked him what will he do with 10 rupees. He said 'khana khana hai...' I looked at him, he looked like another homeless child. We asked him about his family and all. He said he father is not with them. He has a mother who works as a wage worker. He said he sleeps in the market only. Anyhow, we got him something to eat and following conversation proceeded as he ate like a real hungry guy....
Sanyam: Deepu tu yahin rehta hai?
Deepu: Haan bhaiya. Yahin pda rehta hoon.
S: Kitne din se?
D: 6-7 din ho gaye.
S: Mummy ko pta hai?
D: Haan. Mummy ne hi to bhgaya hai ghar se. Khane ko deti hai thi kuch.
S: Acha?... hmmm... Raat ko kahan rehta hai?
D: Yahin so jata hoon.
Me: Darr nai lagta.
D: Lagta to hai par aankh band karke leta rehta hoon.
Me: Aur bhi bache hain kya yahan?
D: haan ye sab hain , he points to a few more boys roaming around... Baki sab apne ghar chale jaate hain shaam ko..
Me: Chori bhi karta hai kya?
D: Nai bhaiya. Chori karta to yahan sarak par nai rehta. Yahan bahut kuch hota hai chori karne ko par nai karta.
Sanyam: School jaega kya?
D: Haan jaunga.
Sanyam: To hum tujhe kal lekar jaenge apne saath apne office.
D: Theek hai... His face brightened up.
We had a little more talk with him before leaving with an assurance to visit him the next day.
NOW, though we felt bad for this little boy, how can w be so sure that what he sad was the truth and he is not making stories and later on his family comes to blame us of kidnapping and all. Though we want to help at least this one boy out of an estimated 10 lakh homeless kids in Delhi, we are confused.
It won't be an easy task to support him. Even if we keep him in our office during the day time, where will he stay at night? At this stage where we are struggling to establish ourselves, will we be able to do justice to this child?
We need your views on this friends. Please suggest what can be done for this boy. Anybody willing to adopt him or support him or something similar.
Regards
